This is the first post that I’ve actually written directly to the readers of my blog. I’m not sure how many people actually check my blog on the regular (obviously some people do according to my blog stats), but I thank you for the love. I haven’t been posting a lot lately because I have a lot on my plate right now, but what I’ve done since I started in February is just the beginning. I plan to go full steam  ahead with The Truth Renaissance beginning in September. To be honest, a lot of things on this blog are still incomplete.  However, expect a lot more album reviews, editorials, videos, social commentary,  articles of interest, everything music and fashion related, book suggestions, etc. Also, be on the look out for more information on what this Truth Renaissance is all about. Until then, check out the video and LASERS Manifesto below; it definitely serves as inspiration for where I’m taking this.

Sidenote: I began writing a review for the new Rick Ross album, but decided not to post it for numerous reasons. I might share my thoughts on it down the road in a different format. I have A LOT of great ideas that I’m going to be introducing down the road. Stay tuned!

Hope everyone is having a safe and blessed weekend. Keep seeking Truth.

Lasers are the opposite of losers. Lasers are shining beams of light that burn through the darkness of ignorance. Lasers shed light on injustice and inequality. Losers stand by and let things happen. Lasers act and shape their own destinies. Lasers find meaning and direction in the mysteries all around them. Lasers stand for love and compassion. Lasers stand for peace. Lasers stand for progression. Lasers are revolutionary.
Lasers Are The Future.

We’re Not Losers…We Are L.A.S.E.R.S.!!!

Love Always Shines Every-time Remember 2 Smile!

Video: The Roots – “The Fire”

July 26, 2010 1 comment

Here is the latest video from The Roots How I Got Over album, which is in stores now. The video was directed by Rik Cordero and is pretty much a mini-film. This is what Rik had to say about the song/video:

“‘The Fire’ is one of my favorite tracks off HIGO and really feels like something you’d hear in the theater. The line ‘you don’t say good luck, you say don’t give up’ inspired me to create a period piece narrative that stays true to the lyrics while adding another layer to the interpretation.”

Don’t forget to pick up the new John Legend & The Roots album Wake Up,  in stores Sept. 21st.

Editorial: The Top 5 R&B Groups of Our Generation

July 16, 2010 9 comments

This is something I wrote back in 2007, but I figured I would add it to my blog just to have it in the archives.

For clarification: “Our” generation would include all us who were born in the 80’s. The artists on this list must have released their 1st album during or after that decade, had a career that lasted at least 5 years, and had at least one multi-platinum selling album. The groups will be judged on the following: 1. The Music (Overall quality of music, hit singles, lyrics, harmonies, albums sold, etc.) 2. Influence (impact on other groups, culture, and fashion) 3. Longevity (Legacy and Staying Power) 4. Individual Member Impact (Outside/Inside work by each member). “Wrote a song about it, like to hear it, hear go..”

Hit the jump for the list..
